Early Stag films were not distributed in the classic fashion. A traveling operator, who might conceal his wares in a doctor's bag, brought the movies into town. He also carried along a projector which he would set up in the back room of some all-male social organization where secrecy could be assured. He got paid in cash and was gone the next day. Sometimes these vintage blue movies were shown at special late-night screenings in commercial theaters after the crowd had been checked and the doors locked.
